SVOII construction
Where do you start a project like this? The Mustang II was carbureted V 6 and the SVO was computer controlled and fuel injected.
A question: Why did Darrell take on this challenge?
We started from a complete SVO mustang and a wiring diagram for 86 Thunder bird. There were differences between the SVO and the T bird color codes they were a nuisance not a problem.
The follow outline lists the steps we took
- Remove engine and wiring from donor SVO. process
- Install engine and transmission into Mustang II (SVOII). problem with pan
- Build a rack above the glove box and mount computer on it.
- Install engine wiring and connect to loose ends to Mustang II wiring. Testing process
- Mod outlets on radiator.
- Fabricate air cleaner mount in finder well in front of tire.
- Fabricate fuel pump and filter mounts. Found parts in junk yard.
- Add radiator electric fan and fan mount.
- Fabricate new rear transmission mount.
- Reshape shift lever.
- Mounted the battery behind rear seat.
- Fabricated exhaust system from donor SVO and a catalytic converter from 1985 ford van.
- Modified power steering hoses to fit newer pump. rack problem
- Add restrictor to fuel tank filler pipe.
- Added all equipment to make car smog legal.
- Get California smog permit.
- Stretched (?) drive shaft.
- A console for the SVO shift boot, was machined from a block of wood and painted with crinkle paint.
- Locate and install mustang II 4 cylinder motor mounts. Reference motor mount problem
- Cut holes in hood for throttle linkage and intercooler. template

A word of caution.
The engine control wiring has a single point ground that must be maintained to protect the system from EMI and sneak circuit problems.
